Current Transformers

A current transformer (CT) is a transformer that produces in its secondary winding a current which is proportional to the current flowing in the primary winding. The secondary current is usually smaller in magnitude than the primary current.

The important factor in the design of CTs is that the ratio of the feeder current to the output current must be maintained accurately over the complete range of values which the CT is designed to measure. The accuracy must conform to the relevant Australian Standards.
